Ariel Ziqian Wang

Young Steinway Artist Ariel Wang credits her musical development to her teachers Haesun Paik, Wha Kyung Byun, Yoheved Kaplinsky, Sangyoung Kim, Kenneth Broadway, Ralph Markham, Amy Yang, and William Wolfram. She studies at the New England Conservatory Preparatory School and at Phillips Academy in Andover, MA. She has also studied at the Curtis Institute of Music Young Artists Summer Program, at the Boston University Tanglewood Institute, and at Eastern Music Festival. In 2019 she was named in CBC’s  “Canada's 30 hot classical musicians under 30” list as the third youngest musician.

At the age of 10, Ariel gave her first solo recital in Vancouver. Since then, she has performed as a soloist with the Vancouver Metropolitan Orchestra, Vancouver Philharmonic Orchestra, Richmond Delta Youth Symphony Orchestra, and Eastern Music Festival Young Artists Orchestra.

Ariel has received more than 40 first prizes and multiple scholarships in local, national, and international competitions since the age of 7, such as winning the Canadian Music Competition in 2015. She has made frequent appearances at prestigious venues including Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, Field Concert Hall at the Curtis Institute of Music, Jordan Hall at New England Conservatory, Tsuen Wan Town Hall in Hong Kong, and Vancouver’s Chan Centre for the Performing Arts. Her international awards include winning Gold and Judges’ Distinction in the American Protégé International Competition in 2014, winning the 16+ category in the 2nd Hong Kong International Music Festival in 2015, winning the Shanghai International Piano Festival in the 16 & under category, winning first prize in the American Fine Arts Festival 2019, and winning first prize in the North International Music Competition 2019 in Stockholm.

In addition to her active pianistic pursuits, Ariel is an accomplished flutist. She is a national prizewinner and principal in the NEC Preparatory orchestras and at Phillips Academy, where she also plays piano in their Chamber Society.
