Ching-Wen Hsiao

Taiwanese-American pianist, Ching-Wen Hsiao, has performed extensively as soloist and chamber musician throughout the United States, Europe, and Asia. She has collaborated with conductors, Kurt Masur, James Conlon, and James DePreist, and violinist Cho-Liang Lin, and given performances at such venues as Carnegie’s Issac Stern and Weill Recital Halls, David Geffen Hall, Steinway Hall, Ravinia Steans Institute, Rubinstein-Saal at Munich Steinway Haus, and Taiwan National Concert Hall. 

A graduate of The Juilliard School (B.M., M.M., and D.M.A. in Piano Performance) and recipient of its “Outstanding Pianist Award”, Dr. Hsiao worked closely with Yoheved Kaplinsky, Jerome Lowenthal, Emilio del Rosario, and Itzhak Perlman. A winner of multiple prizes and awards, she was the gold medalist at the 1995 Taiwan National Piano Competition, Juilliard’s Gina Bachauer Piano Competition, Steinway's Solo Piano and Concerto Competitions, Southeastern University’s “Outstanding Scholarship” Award, and the “Rising Star Award,” granted by the Minister of Culture in Taiwan.

Dr. Hsiao is Assistant Professor of Piano and Keyboard Area Coordinator at West Virginia University and a member of the piano faculty at Carnegie Mellon University’s Preparatory Division. Previously, she was on the piano faculty at Juilliard’s Pre-College Division, Assistant Professor of Piano at Southeastern University, and Executive Director of Geneva Conservatory of Music of New York. She has taught at the Aspen Music Festival, U.S.-China Piano Festival, and Viana do Castelo International Music Festival in Portugal. Dr. Hsiao has served as the Director of West Virginia International Piano Competition and Festival and Regional Director of Elite International Music Competition since 2018.
