“The Steinway piano is a reliable friend whose amazing sensitivity allows for the softest nuances and the greatest power. I can say without any second of hesitation - the Steinway is the best piano in the world.”

Oleg Volkov

Born in the south of Russia, Steinway Artist Oleg Volkov began his musical studies at the age of seven, eventually graduating with honors from the Moscow Conservatory under the tutelage of Victor Merzhanov. Upon the completion of his studies, Mr. Volkov was appointed assistant professor to Maestro Merzhanov, a position he held until leaving for the United States in 1990. While teaching at the Moscow Conservatory, Volkov split his time between pedagogy and a busy concert schedule enjoying many performances throughout USSR and Europe. Numerous successes at international competitions led to the invitation to join the music faculty at the University of Maryland as a visiting professor.

Volkov has since performed in the most prestigious concert halls including the Great Hall of Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory, The Kennedy Center, Lincoln Center in New York, South Bay Center for the Arts in California, as well as Tokyo Bunka Kaikan in Japan, Teatro Cervantes de Malaga in Spain, and many others. He has appeared in concerts in major cities throughout the United States, both as a recitalist and as soloist with orchestra. In 1998, Volkov was awarded a prestigious Distinguished Artist of Russia award. Volkov’s recordings cover musical styles from Haydn to Schnittke and have been released on Music Corporation of America (MCA), Melodia (USSR), Fontec (Japan), and Brioso Recordings (USA) labels. His performances have been warmly praised in the Washington Post and other publications. Volkov's students are winners of numerous international piano competitions and awards.

Oleg Volkov has been a Steinway Artist since 1992.
